Dr. Osborne received his medical training at the University of London where he was awarded the medical school Governor’s Gold Medal and nay prizes. He trained in surgery in medical centers in the United Kingdom including the Royal College of Surgeons, Charing Cross Hospital, St. James’ Hospital, and The Brompton Hospital. In 1977 he was awarded the Raven Prize for research by the British Association of Surgical Oncology. He was on the surgical staff and Honorary Lecturer at the Royal Marsden Hospital and Institute of Cancer Research in London until 1981.

 

In 1981 Dr. Osborne joined the staff of Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center as an Attending Surgeon on the Breast Service and became Head of the Breast Cancer Research Laboratory.

 

In 1991 Dr. Osborne became Chief of the Breast Service and Attending Surgeon in the Department of Surgery at The New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Cornell Medical Center and President of Strang Cancer Prevention Center He held the academic position of Professor of Surgery, with tenure, at Cornell University Medical College, Adjunct Faculty Member and Visiting Associate Physician at The Rockefeller University. He also headed a research group studying new diagnostic methods and the process by which breast cancer occurs and its prevention.

 

Dr. Osborne is an internationally recognized expert specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. Over the past thirty years, Dr. Osborne has diagnosed and operated on more than eight thousand patients, including at least one thousand with breast cancer. Dr. Osborne has lectured in the field of breast disease all over the world and has published and presented over 400 papers and articles, authored three books, and written chapters in several major textbooks as well as many review articles.

 

Dr. Osborne holds a Masters in Surgery degree from the University of London, is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. From 1995-1997 he was President of the New York Metropolitan Breast Cancer Group, and in 1995, was appointed Secretary-General of the International Society for Cancer Chemoprevention. He is a member of the American Surgical Association. In 2014 Dr. Osborne became President of the New York Surgical Society which was founded 135 years ago and is one of the most prestigious Surgical Societies in the US.

 

New York Magazine has listed Dr. Osborne as one of the “Best Doctors” since 1991. Dr. Osborne was listed by Good Housekeeping in 1989 as one of the best cancer physicians in the United States. He has been listed as one of America’s Top Doctors, America’s Top Doctors for Cancer and The New York Times as a Super Doctor.
